About the Division
PPPT DDIVISION’S thrust area is conservation of natural forests through efficient utilization of existing wood resources and development and adoption of technologies for manufacturing wood alternates and panel products from plantation timber and bamboo including renewable fibers to meet the vital needs of our developing society.
The activity of the division includes research on all aspects of production of sawn timber, manufacturing plywood and other allied engineered and reconstituted wood and lignocellulosic products, including improvement of materials, manufacturing processes, machines and appliances and conditions of work standard of factories.
Development of suitable adhesives for bonding all the kinds of woods and wood based materials continues to be an important R&D activity of the division. The division has greater contirubtion in formulating Bio-adhesives using various renewable materials of natural origin viz., cardanol, lignin, black liquor, tannin, soya defatted chunks as a partial replacement for phenol in phenolic resins. Has also developed amino resins with low formaldehyde emissions to address the global concerns of green house gas emissions.
Training in connection with forest product utilization for plywood industry and trade and allied industries in technology of agro and forests products, adhesives and laminates, and/or synthetic finishing and manufacturing machinery.
Standardization and testing of all forest products viz. plywood, wood, timber, hardboard, particleboard, chipboard, furniture, glue-lam, compreg, doors, block board, flush doors, veneered panels, veneers, laminated panels, composite boards, and the products of allied trade and industry.

Processing engineering of raw materials for developming panel products including Saw Doctoring and Saw Milling
Manufacturing plywood and other allied reconstituted and lignocellulosic products
Development of synthetic resin and adhesive composition including bio-adhesives
evaluation of resin charecteristics and testing of resin including preservative chemical retention
Product designing, development and Quality assessment
Development and evaluation of fire rated door and panel products
Formulation/revision/amendement of National Standards for panel products
Analysis and testing of chemicals and emission of volatile compunds from wood composites
