Wood Processing (WP) Division has been working to find appropriate technologies for value addition to non-durable timbers from plantations and other secondary timbers. These include studies on drying behavior and finding appropriate seasoning techniques for plantation grown timbers, permeability of wood, development and assessment of wood preservatives and their treatment techniques, techniques for overcoming residual growth stresses in logs, chemical modification of wood, weathering of wood and its protection, and development of wood polymer composites.
